Over 50 Need Life Insurance?

Up until a few years ago, there was this logic doing the rounds that once your kids are grown up and in college, and you’ve retired from work, you can let your insurance policy lapse because who needs it anymore? This was true especially of women, and no points for guessing – these women qualified as part of the 50+ bracket. In recent times though, this logic has been taking the back seat, and more and more women above the age of 50 years have been continuing to keep their insurance policies, regardless of the Life Insurance Costs.
Why women over 50 need life insurance
  • Recession. The recession has thrown the world into financial turmoil. Despite having less money, it has been deemed necessary for 50+ women to hold on to their policies just add that extra financial impetus into their family’s lives.
  • The kids. Even though most 50 year old women’s children will have grown up and started taking care of themselves, a lot of women from this age group feel that their children deserve to have that little bit more. They want to leave a legacy behind to help their children take the next big step – buy a house, start a business, or even pay off their debts.
  • The spouse. Once you and your significant other are both retired and living off your savings and pension checks, Life Insurance For Women can add that extra layer of financial security. Say the woman in this scenario falls ill, and it’s a long, drawn out illness, the medical expenses will be a major burden on the savings of the couple. The payout of from the life insurance policy, will be means of mitigating that expense.
  • The estate. One of the big reasons for women above a certain age to still continue holding on to their insurance policies is for estate planning. If they have a large estate whose transfer to their children will trigger the payment of estate taxes, then the death benefit from the life insurance policy can go towards paying off that tax, leaving your children to enjoy the asset without having to pay steep taxes on it.
These are some of the reasons why women above the age of 50 are still holding on to, and even purchasing new life insurance policies. At the end of the day, insurance is never purchased for yourself, so if you care about your loved ones, there’s no reason to give up that policy regardless of age.
